About Ryan

Ryan Lewis Goodman is a cybersecurity professional, currently working at The MITRE Corporation as an Intermediate Cyber Operations Engineer. Ryan has 3 years of relevant experience, and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with his Bachelors of Science in Computing Security in Rochester, NY, in December of 2020. Rochester, NY is located in what New York City residents call, “Upstate, NY”, near Lake Ontario. Ryan’s interest in cyber stemmed from browsing majors at RIT back in late 2015 when applying to colleges. Interestingly enough, Ryan wanted to be an archaeologist before being told by his father that it would be difficult.

Ryan’s father:

“Son, there isn’t much out there for archaeology. You’ll go to school for four years, write hundreds of proposals and barely be able to put food on the dinner table. You’re good with computers. Why don’t you try a career in technology or engineering instead? You’ll make more money, be happier, and enjoy life more.”

At the time, Ryan was sure his dad probably didn’t understand everything that went into archaeology, and of course, neither did he. However, this did not deter Ryan from enjoying the history channel, learning about old and ancient civilizations and cultures. Little did he know, what this did in fact spark was a passion for cyber and defending critical assets from adversaries. Ryan knew he didn’t just want to be a general run-of-the-mill technologist, majoring in information technology or computer science. He wanted something new and up-and-coming. Something that could spark his interest, make a tangible difference for the world, and above all else, something that was at his college of choice, per his father’s recommendation and due to his previous attendance there.

Without knowing the exact reasons why, Ryan chose cybersecurity when he applied to RIT. Upon receiving a massive envelope that had the three letters printed upon it, ‘R’, ‘I’, ‘T’, Ryan knew this was his destiny.
